About

Hardinge’s work explores the medium of photography as a ritual, organic gesture and a window into introspection. Through the documentation of family life, and family archives his work investigates the notion of ephemerality. With black and white photography, he photographs the fleeting moments of daily life and spontaneity.

The inefficient, meticulous and peaceful analogue photographic process is intriguing to Hardinge, who sees this process as a way of musing. This meditative process of taking a making a photograph fascinates Hardinge just as much as the final image. Scouting, framing, developing, processing, printing and scanning are all individual steps of the photographic process that fascinates him.

Angled, blurred, warped and flashed, his street photography style offers somewhat a fictitious gaze to the would around him. Hardinge wanders the streets with his camera, positioning himself as a witness, transforming the split second moments into lasting, tangible photographic memories. As a life observer he documents his family heritage & legacy with an metaphorical magnifying glass. Highlighting fine details and uncovering the past that would likely be forgotten. His work acts as a way to preserve his family history, and to compile it into a photographic story. Utilizing archival documents, photographs, and modern photography he pieces together a rich and complex legacy.

Hardinge previously pursued studies in business, he is now focusing on photography at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada.
